This medical mission trip
was organized in partnership with SIB Canada Hill and it was a first attempt by
HCFAM to conduct a medical camp in Sarawak. It was held in Long Singu and Long
Menapa where patients from Long Tangau gathered at Long Singu and patients from
Long Luar gathered at Long Menapa to receive medical treatment. These areas were inhabited by the Penans. Brother Rolland of
SIB Canada Hill helped connect us with the Penans of these villages. The mission team comprised 4
doctors, 6 non-medicals and an ex-tutor in Pharmacy.
The journey into the
interiors of Long Singu commenced on 25 April and took almost 9 hours from Miri with rough and hardy
terrain along some stretches of the road. A good team spirit
prevailed among us and we had a wonderful and joyous time of fellowship and
working together. Our spirits were high despite the water problem that we
faced. The landslide that took place before our arrival had polluted the dam
which was the source of water for the Penan residents.
The Word of God was shared with
the people of Long Singu on 25 April night. May the hearts of
the people be fertile soil for His Word, bringing forth growth and fruitfulness
in their lives. The young people led in the worship beautifully and may these
young lives stay strong in the Lord. A simple and basic medical education was
conducted in Long Singu on the following night and there was a time of
questions and answers from the floor as Dr. Patvinder delivered the teaching.
The Penans were thankful and appreciative of the medical services rendered and love shown to them.
A special word of thanks to sis. Rose and Liza who helped cooked the delicious meals for the team.
